The Fifth annual Rockabilly Revival Festival in Austin, Texas was a swinging celebration of Rockabilly at it’s finest. Reviving the heart of Rock and Roll, the festival rang out on to the streets with killer thumps of the upright bass and old school riffs of hollow body Gretsches. Walking into a subculture that only Rockabilly is responsible for, I was surrounded by the nostalgia of a by gone era of rolled up jeans, slicked back hair and victory rolls galore. Truly a festival of good times with only the coolest of the cool cats and beautiful babies. The lineup included The Hot Rod Hillbillies, Johnny Hootrock featuring the Jigglewatts, Holy Moly!, Rosie Flores, The Smites, Psycho Devilles, Three Bad Jacks, Lee Rocker (Stray Cats), Nekromatix and none other than the king of Rockabilly himself, The Reverend Horton Heat.

The Fifth Annual Revival Fest was a smash and closing out the night was headliners and native Texans, The Reverend Horton Heat. Starting out with one of the first songs being my favorite, “Psychobilly Freakout”, I was in complete Rockabilly heaven. With a cult following and 25 years as one of Rockabilly’s most popular and respected bands, the night ended perfectly. A smaller festival unlike other Austin festivals, I felt like I had received the true experience. As I walked out the gates, I couldn’t believe that I had missed the first four Revival’s and surely thinking, I will be back for the 6th.
